On Friday 29th September Viewport3 Directors, Richard Drennan and Chris Harvey, had the honour of demonstrating our leading-edge 3D scanning technologies and processes to His Majesty King Charles III, during a Royal visit to the HQ of Global Underwater Hub (GUH).
GUH, which represents the diverse range of businesses operating in the UK’s £8 billion underwater industry, provided The King with a tour of its premises in Westhill on the outskirts of Aberdeen, and showcased the vital work being undertaken across sectors including offshore energy, aquaculture, defence and telecoms.
Richard and Chris were invited to represent Viewport3 as one of GUH’s member companies who exemplify pioneering subsea technology and demonstrable success.
His Majesty toured exhibits from a range of companies working in the blue economy, including Viewport3, and spent time discussing the business’ activities with Chris and Richard.
Chris said: “It was a huge honour for Richard and I to be formally presented to The King. We enjoyed an extremely stimulating chat with His Majesty, who expressed genuine fascination with what we do, particularly in relation to our scanning of the WWII lost submarine, the SS Grunion. We even chatted about one of our projects which saw us scanning the bridge at the Linn O’ Dee, which of course is on his doorstep at Balmoral.
“The event really underscored the importance of innovation, and collaboration on a global stage: when we push the boundaries of human endeavour and technology, we can capture the attention of leaders who are eager to shape a better future.
“We are immensely grateful to GUH for this unique opportunity to meet His Majesty, and to showcase our technology and expertise in 3D scanning and dimensional analysis. The experience highlighted the extent to which the leading-edge knowledge and expertise that we have right on our doorstep is being deployed with great success internationally – truly inspirational!”
